No one can deny that family is the first block to build a society and a strong family means a strong society as a result. Life has changed in many aspects and the form and role of the family are not an exception. I think that most of the changes have a negative influence on societies and its pros are far less, so this essay is discussing the changes and the negative consequences of these changes.
After the massive changes the world gone through due to mass media, work style, and living style, there are deep and shallow changes in families around the globe. First, the family’s form in most societies is shifting from extended family - family that has three generations or more live together or close- to small family - family that consists only parents and children. Second, there is a change in the number of kids, since most parents tend to have only one or two kids now. So, it is common to see a whole generation grow with no uncle or aunts. Besides, in the past extended family used to live together in a house or at least close to each other, consequently, this style of living gives children a safe and protected environment to play and communicate with kids in their age. In addition, the relationship between adults was stronger which give individual benefits of getting help from other members whenever got in any hardships such as sickness or financial problems. The famiy’s role and style of living have changed dramatically.
There is a huge negative influence on family members and society as well. First, the relationships among family members have changed, it became weaker and weaker. Family members now may see each other only once a year. Furthermore, children do not feel that they have to look after their old parents which used to be an obligation in the past. Secondly, family members missed the support that family used to give in the past which put family members in difficult challenges. For example, more girls now can’t study if they get married early since studying needs much effort and time in the school and at home which they do not have as they have many duties. Third, children have less opportunity to have fun and spend time with kids in their age since they mostly live around unknown neighborhood. These changes affect different family's members.
To sum up, families' role and have been changing in many aspects in most societies, and changes are followed by negative results. Small family tends to be popular and the relationships between families are not strong any more. Younger and olde family members who suffer cannot receive enough support or care.
