Family is the first form of society we deal with, which transfers to us the first education and the main values that we bring with us for the rest of our lifes. However, family structure is not anymore as before, and its role seems different too. These changes are mainly related to physical closeness of family members that is becoming progressively farder, causing some disvantages about caring of kids and older family members.
In order to better understand these changes, we need to talk about current family members. While in the past families were usually composed of three generations, grandparents, parents, and children, now granparents tend to live on their own. The concept of family has changed because new couples want more privacy and to be the only responsable about children education. Moreover, it's becoming frequent that children move abroad during their adult phase. This happens sometimes in order to look for better job opportunities, other times in order to find the right place for theirselves.
These changes caused some disvantages mainly about caring of children and old parents. Becuase grandparents don't live anymore with their grandchildren, and considering that parents usually work, the care of children becomes a problem. Parents often have to leave children in nurseries or employing a babysitter. Because adult children don't live anymore in the same city of parents, sons and dauthers can not take care of old parents, who remain alone. Old parents usually need home cares in order to survive.
Thus, I believe that this changes are the natural conseguence of world evolution and globalization, however we need to be aware of their disvantages in order to confront to them as better as possible.
