The table below shows the sales at a small restaurant in a downtown business district.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

You should write at least 150 words.

Writing task 1

The table illustrates the incomes of a restaurant in a business area of a city during a week in October. It shows the sales for each day of the week for lunches and dinners. Overall, evening meals represent higher incomes than lunches and weekend days show the lowest sales.

Looking at lunches' sales, Wednesday is the most profitable day at 2,595$ and is followed closely by Friday at 2,500$. By comparison, Saturday and Sunday show the lowest sales at 1,950$ and 1,550$, respectively. This is probably related to the fact that the restaurant is less frequented by business people on the weekend.

Turning to incomes coming from dinners, Friday is the most profitable day at 4,350$ and is followed closely by Tuesday and Wednesday at 3,850$ for both days. Once again, the restaurant seems to be less popular on the weekend as Saturday and Sunday present incomes at 2,900$ and 2,450$, respectively.

Writing task 2

For some people, leisure time is the perfect moment to put your mind at rest. In contrast, others are of the opinion that we should take this opportunity to engage in activities that improve our minds. In this essay, I will examine the question from both points of view, and then, I will give my perspective on the matter.

On the one hand, engaging in hobbies that improve the function of our brains is crucial to becoming a good citizen. In fact, by exercising our cognitive functions every day, we are learning more rapidly and are able to master complex notions. Consequently, our understanding of the world is improved, and we make more thoughtful decisions. Moreover, by enhancing our brain capacity, we are more efficient when we accomplish tasks that involve concentration. Nowadays, time is a precious resource, and therefore, efficiency is a capital skill to develop.

On the other hand, we can make the opposing case. Some people would argue that maintaining a high level of concentration for a long period of time can have detrimental effects on working capacities. In fact, a Canadian study stated that individuals who did not take the appropriate time to rest were less productive. In turn, it may event cause depression and burnout. Furthermore, to rest the mind does not mean to do nothing. Physical exercise is considered a relaxing activity that brings numerous benefits for people's health like reducing cardiovascular diseases and stress. In addition, individuals who exercise are known to have a better concentration.

In conclusion, both sides have their merits. However, on balance, I believe that allowing time to relax our brain is tremendously important. This is because it enhances our concentration for when we need it the most, and brings health advantages.
