You should write at least 250 words.
I do agree that this topic is very controversial, however, I have a very determined opinion about it.
I strongly believe that gay marriage should be legal.
I believe in freedom and democracy, in the freedom of speech and the freedom of choice. Marriage is the free choice of two free people. I tend to understand that people based on religious conviction are disagree with gay marriage, and even though I disagree, I still understand if given churches and congregations deny to marry a gay couple. However, there should be no obsticle for a gay couple to be able to get married through a civil service acknowledged by their government.
Why should any state refuse to give the same civil rights to some people only because they are attracted to their own gender? As I mentioned above, in case of a religious state - although I strongly disagree - I tend to understand their reasons. But in most of the states that is not the case. Let gay people show their respect towards the institution of marriage, let them be married! Some people might say that hundreds of years ago gay marriage did not exist. But if we keep all the traditions and live by hundred years old laws, we were in big trouble in many ways. Why would gay marriage have adverse effect on the society? Society should be more accepting, today's society should respect and support people's fundamental right to love whoever they wish to love and is there is a mutual agreement between them, they should be able to legalize their love, such as heterosexual couples can do so.
