Nowadays, children spent an average of 6 hours per day at school, the influence on their intellectual and social development is a balance between their family life and school life. I think that children development can be influenced by three groups, teachers, parents and classmates.
Teachers are profesional with an academic formation, they have a limited right to express their owne opinion on any subject, politics, private education and many other topics. Teachers's goal is to influence mainly the intellectual side of children, by developing the "how to think" thanks to math for example, or general culture thanks to literature and history. So, yes teacher have a huge impact on intellectual development for children, bu none on social developement.
Social developments is mainly impacted on a day to day relationship, friend, parents, sisters and borther, in this particular case, by your classmate. How to behave into a social environment can be learn througth social interaction with others and will not need any teaching or leason implication. Parents and family are key as well, a parents is full time teacher, but nowaday, lot of parents leave the hardest task of education 100% to the school.
In conclusion, teacher can have a influence on children's intellectual developments, more than social. The human intellect can be teached to other, and thanks to book. A social development need more implication from other, the society change faster than never, if social can be teach with book from 50 years ago, those lessons would be unpdated.
