Writing task 1

The graphs give information about the enrolments of international students and home students in Australian universities from 2001 to 2010.

Overly, both the total and commencing number of overseas students experienced a steady but significant upward trend during the given period of time. In the same time, the total enrolment rates of local students increased sharply at first and then stayed unaltered. The trend of commencing students is rather constanly fluctuating.

In the early 2001 the total number of foreign enrolments consisted of 20000. These figures rose to over 80000 in the year 2010. Commencing international students made up a number of roughly 10000 in the 2001, whereas jumping to around 40000 in 2010.

The number of local students was 40000 back in 2001. It increased by 20000 from 2001 till the early 2007 and stayed solid until the end of the period. Commencing student ratio rather revolves around 20000 the whole time without any drastic changes.

Task 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Some people think that hosting an international sports event is good for the country, while some people think it is bad. Discuss both views and state your opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

Some individuals argue that hosting an international sports event has positive impact on the country, while some desperately contradict the following statement. To my mind, although various obstacles might be faced, a viral sports event is rather good for the country. In this essay I will support my point by demonstrating examples and stating arguments.

On the one side, I absolutely comprehend the complications connected with conducting a major celebration like that. It may result in unwanted dramatic expenses which may later set the economy of the country in danger. Especially low-income countries or so-called Third World countries are overly vulnerable in this aspect. Recent studies show that such countries usually can't cope with maintaining the facilities they have developed for the period of the event. Therefore, it is better to forgo such an opportunity if the economy of the country is not stable yet.

However, the advantages of hosting such an event certainly outweigh the disadvantages. It is worth giving it a go, since it contributes to rising number of tourists. Having said so, the infrastructure improves significantly because many sport sights such as tennis courts, football fields and so on are estabilished during that time. According to the latest research, hosting a sport event may even have a positive effect on the wellbeing of the citizens and improve their living standards.

To summarize, hosting a sport event of a global importance is definitely a plus for the country. I would only be proud if my home-country took this challenge and enjoyed the benefits of it afterwards.
