You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter
• say why a driving licence is advantageous
• recommend a driving school
• give any extra guidance/tips
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
You should write at least 150 words.
I hope you and your loved ones have been staying safe and healthy during this pandemic. It has been a while since we last spoke. During our previous conversation, I remember you mentioning that you wished to learn how to drive. I think it's a good idea, now that you are going to graduate soon.
Owning a driving license in Canada is essential for your personal as well as professional life. Given that you are training to be a plant safety inspector, your work will often entail travel to remote locations that lack a well connected public transport network. Further, travelling in your personal vehicle can often be faster than using the bus or the metro.
I think you should get started with your driving lessons as soon as possible. I'd recommend you to go to the Omega Driving School located on Guy and De Maisonneuve Boulevard. The instructors there are very experienced and patient and will train you well.
Some people take 8 driving lessons before they appear for their tests, but I would recommend taking up to 12 lessons. Driving is an important life skill and it's never a bad thing to get some extra training in.
I wish you the best of luck with your remaining studies and with your driver training. Stay safe and healthy.
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
Write about the following topic:
Should long-term job seekers in receipt of government benefits be made to do voluntary work so that they give something back to the community?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
You should write at least 250 words.
Unemployment is a major concern for any nation that wishes to grow and prosper. Supporting the unemployed with government benefits helps build the foundations of a safe and caring community. However, instead of helping the job seekers without any expectations from them, enlisting them as volunteers to serve the community can prove beneficial to them as well as the wider society. Mandatory community work in exchange for unemployment benefits can not only increase the welfare of the community but can also give the jobless a sense of purpose and self-respect.
Other than limited resources, one of the greatest hurdles for community projects is the lack of manpower. If more of the unemployed people participated in serving their neighbourhood, a lot can be accomplished. Whether it be maintaining the park, patching the roads, or keeping the city clean; with enough participation, all these tasks can be finished in a timely and effective manner. Furthermore, keeping the jobless engaged in community work would discourage some of the anti-social elements from acting up and misguiding the youth into reckless behaviour. By giving these people a place to go to in the morning, we could considerably reduce problems such as drug addiction, theft, and violence. This would lead to a safer society which in turn would prosper and create more opportunities in the future.
Another reason in favour of this idea is the effect it would have on the unemployed themselves. By enrolling them into community service, we make them valuable members of the society who are actively contributing to its development instead of being liabilities to the rest of the people. This can greatly impact the mindset of everyone towards such individuals as they are now given the chance to have self-respect and a sense of purpose and belonging. Further, by interacting with others like themselves, they can feel comfortable in the fact that their struggles are not unique. Such initiatives can also be a good platform to network with others, leading to new ventures or job opportunities.
Thus, based on the reasoning that it can be beneficial for job-seeking individuals as well as the society as a whole; mandatory community service in exchange for financial support is an idea that holds weight and should be implemented for the greater good.
