The illustrations show two stages in the development of the mobile phone. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Writing Task 1

There are two images which illustrates improvement of the mobile phone by comparing several features such as dimensions, screen colour, buttons and other functions. There are minor developments like making smaller and lighter mobile phone and major developments such as adding camera, music player.

Early mobile phone weighted 150 gram, only had one function button, two direction keys, black/white display, keyboard, pointy ear phone and dimensions with 130mm, 50mm. On the other hand, comtemporary mobile phone has ear phone with linely shape, four direction keys, two more function buttons, letters including keyboard, full-colour display, camera which enables not only taking photographs but also recording videos, Moreover, there are new functions which were not existed in previous mobile phone which provides sending e-mail, surfing on the internet, listening music and playing multi-player games. In contrast, contemporary mobile phone which has much more features than the early mobile phone weights only 70 grams and has dimensions 90mm, 40mm.

Some people believe that giving longer prison sentences is the best way to reduce crime. Others believe that there are better ways to reduce crime. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

You should write at least 250 words.

There are many crimes which are punished by law with prison sentences, cash fines or other punishments like public service. Some of people believe that decreasing crime is only possible with longer prison sentences, while others believe that different solutions can be found such as education and rehabilitation.

First of all, there are many people suggests that longer prison sentences decreases the crime owing to fear of the penalty. However, giving longer prison sentences do not prevent a criminal from committing another crime according to statistics shared. In contrasts, prisoners who sentenced shorter and educated in the jail do not commit any crime with rate of 93%. For instance, Denmark which believes the reason of committing crime is lack of education and poverty, gives education to prisoners and gives shortest prison sentences to criminals in the Europe and has lowest proportion of crime across the Europe. Moreover, despite the idea of longer prison sentences is reducing crimes, longer prison sentences causes psychological problems and makes prisoners re-commit crimes after going out from prison. Nevertheless, rehabilitation of prisoner and optimised prison-sentences provides lower crime rates. To exemplify, Canada which has lowest crime ratios in both North and South America, states that committing crime is mostly caused by psychological problems and traumas. Therefore, they prefer rehabilitating prisoners rather than giving them longer sentences which may trigger their psychological problems.

To sum up, education and rehabilitation are the best two methods which may decrease crime rather than longer prison sentences. The reason of that is lack of education and psychological problems are the main reasons of crimes. Statistics and examples of these application proves this idea.
