The amount of rubbish producing by average household has raised dramatically in the last few decades. This essay considering the reasons for this negative trend and suggests some ways how this problem could be solved.
Growing standard of living and new technologies changed the way we treat the food. A couple of decades ago one could be surprised by seeing every single fruit packed to its own wrapping in a supermarket. Now it is not the case. The breakthrough in chemical technology made plastic production fairly cheap. It also changed people habit. Now, when one feels thirsty he just buys a plastic bottle of water without thinking about the future of empty bottle. A short while ago we used textile bags to carry purchases from a shop, but today everybody relies on plastic bags providing for free.
Several measures could be undertaken by governments in order to reduce the amount of trash. The main one is a restriction of plastic production. For example, they can forbid free bags in supermarkets. Also, it is possible to increase taxes for plastic bottles vendors and encourage deposit return system. In addition, it is important to tell school children about responsible consuming and about the impact rubbish has to nature.
To conclude, growing economy force people to consume more and, as a consequence, to produce more wastes. However, a set of measures still could be undertaken by governments to save the planet from the frightening amount of rubbish.
