SAMPLE WRITING TASK 1

The diagrams compare two different methods of defence for homes which are at risk of being flooded.

The key difference between the diagrams is that they show flood protection with and without a stopbank. In either case, the at-risk home is raised on stilts above ground level.

The first diagram shows how a stopbank acts as a flood barrier to stop river water from flooding homes. The stopbank is a small mound of land next to the river that is higher than the 100-year flood level, and prevents the river from bursting its banks. Nearby houses can be built on stilts to prevent flooding from rainwater, and a floodgate beneath the stopbank can be opened to allow this ‘ponding’ to drain off into the river.

When there is no stopbank, as shown in the second diagram, there will be nothing to stop the river from flooding. In this case, the solution is to put buildings on stilts. The height of the stilts is measured so that the floor of the house is 300mm above the 100-year flood level. This measurement is called the ‘freeboard’.

(Band 9)

SAMPLE WRITING TASK 2

Couple are the people who decide to use a same route for walking together. Tested by the harsh obstacle, the couple still help each other and believe in their love and faithfulness. The wedding ceremony is just an official declaration however cohabitation is believed and applied by young people before wedding is set. Someone thinks it is a benefit for couple but others think it is not.

Lover in some countries such as Thailand is expected to have good behavior. Every family teach their children belong to the custom. Each girl is placed in tradition to reserve herself. The practice in the society is so strong to determine to people action that the black sheep is blamed. In addition, their parents may be looked down on. The cohabitation might not happen throughout in these countries. Still, a man invited by her family is a good sign to become a member of the family. Both sides of the couple family which are familiar with each side encourage to make a family.

With regard to western countries, the custom is quite unlike to the eastern countries. Cohabitation is widely seen in the adolescents. Holding hand and kissing are the normal occurrence. Besides, couple feel freely telling about cohabitation. It is a good sample of life before wedding so preparation for making family by learning your couple is pretty crucial. They can stay together as if they separate to be a stranger

In conclusion, I think to keep the lover’s status depends on the experience they passed. Cohabitation is a means to measure for lifelong relationship. I agree with any method to get a solution; long-lasting lover. In near future, some countries which now cohabitation remain unacceptable maybe gradually adapt to universal ideas. The wedding couple will live with happiness with rare divorcement.
